Support to Afghanistan Sustainable Energy for Rural Development and climate change adaptation project funded by UNDP, Afghanistan
The overall purpose of the project was to develop a proposal to mobilize funds from Green Climate Fund (GCF) for climate change resilience, following a feasibility study identifying potential areas for renewable energy mini-grids; economic development options that can be linked to provision of affordable energy; climate change mitigation and adaptation elements. Under this project, following tasks were performed (i) Development of a proposal, supporting climate change mitigation and adaptation in the context of Afghanistan Sustainable Energy for Rural Development and Climate Change Adaptation programme through the proviso of mini-grids (ii) Leading the feasibility study team and developing feasibility reports in the target areas that included household survey of 64,000 households spread over 17 provinces (iii) Supporting the development of other documents required for the funding proposal (iv) Theory of Change construct was developed, identifying key barriers and enablers to support implementation of project over its lifetime.
