Client’s industry located at Podanur Works, Coimbatore faced severe power shortage and hence the production was severely affected. Though the power requirements of the industry were partly met with diesel generators, the cost of power generation was very high. Hence client envisaged to replace the diesel generators with a biomass based captive power plant. ITPI was assigned the task of preparing DPR for the project. As part of the project, ITPI carried out detailed biomass assessment in the region and techno-economic feasibility of the project. The Detailed Project Report covered biomass assessment in the region and development of strategies for supply chain management, review of technologies available for biomass combustion, selection of operating parameters and sizing of key components of the plant, identification of existing government policies and clearances required, and detailed financial modelling based on capital investment required, cost of biomass, O&M costs etc.
